Ceretto announces free electronics-recycling event in Lewiston

Assemblyman John Ceretto is encouraging Town and Village of Lewiston residents to recycle their old electronic devices from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Highway Garage on 1445 Swann Road. The electronics-recycling event is free. Organizers will accept televisions, small electrical appliances, cell phones, handheld power tools, lamps and computers.

"It's important that communities across New York state offer a place where we can responsibly dispose our old electronic goods," Ceretto said. "We are fortunate to have Town of Lewiston Highway Superintendent Doug Janese and the generous staff at the Highway Department devote their time to make sure our community reduces the spread of electronic waste by recycling these electronic goods in a safe manner."

Janese said, "By providing this much-needed request and service for our residents, we are able to prevent the material from entering the waste stream or being illegally disposed of. If we continue to see a strong demand for the service, I will be holding these drop-offs on a quarterly basis." 

The Town of Lewiston Highway Department hosted its first electronics-recycling drop-off in January and received more than 20,000 pounds of recyclable electronics.
