Seven groups of Feder School of Classical Ballet students received certificates Wednesday signifying their advancement in the Cecchetti method.

To receive such recognition, each dancer was required to attend specialized classes, take an exam and receive an evaluation by an out-of-state judge.

The Cecchetti Council of America describes the Cecchetti method as a demanding means of training whereby participants learn the essential ballet qualities (including balance, poise, strength, elevation and elasticity).

Ballerinas who continue with the Cecchetti method can eventually earn a diploma and audition for dance and theater companies.

Dance workshop coming to Grand Island

The Feder School of Classical Ballet will present a dance workshop Saturday, July 25, on Grand Island. The clinic features classes, a forum and special guest Bre O'Toole, an on-camera agent with 25 years of dance experience. O'Toole is the associate director of McDonald Selznick Associates, a bicoastal agency representing dancers and choreographers worldwide.

Students can take advantage of classes in hip-hop (9-10 a.m. for ages 9-12; noon until 1:15 p.m. for ages 13 and up) and contemporary (10:15-11:15 a.m./1:30-2:45 p.m.). "Dance as a career" will be discussed from 3-3:45 p.m., and is open to all participants. Topics to be discussed include headshots, dance resumes, auditions, unions, agents and New York vs. Los Angeles.

For more information, or to register, contact Julie at [email protected]. The studio is located at 2407 Grand Island Blvd.
