The New York Power Authority will hold a family safety fair Saturday, June 6, at the Niagara Power Vista at the Niagara Power Project.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the grounds and inside the Power Vista. Families can learn about electrical safety while viewing vehicles NYPA uses to perform daily tasks at the Niagara Power Project, including a hybrid bucket truck, dump truck, backhoe and mobile crane.

Other event participants and presentations include:

  • New York State Police rollover demonstration
  • Display vehicles from the police departments of Lewiston, Niagara Falls and U.S. Border Patrol
  • The marine and mounted patrol units at the Niagara County Sheriff's Department
  • North Tonawanda Police will conduct car seat safety checks
  • Niagara Falls Fire Department's fire safety house with interactive safety presentations
  • Niagara Falls Coach Lines school bus
  • NFTA hybrid passenger bus
  • U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
  • Cement truck display and construction safety presentation by Lafarge Aggregates and Concrete

Enter the "Build Up to Safety" contest, using Legos and imagination, to construct a safety-related object, like a fire truck, construction site, patrol boat or medical helicopter. Build at the Power Vista or bring your item from home. Prizes for the best entries will be awarded at 3 p.m.

The first 300 children will receive a free anti-bullying wristband.

Representatives from the New York Masonic Safety ID Program will provide parents, guardians, seniors and college students with free safety identification packets, including a personalized compact disc with a digital photograph, fingerprints and other vital information that law enforcement can use in the search for a missing loved one.

Visitors also can enjoy more than 50 displays and interactive exhibits on electricity, energy efficiency and area history, as well as unique views from an observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River gorge.

NYPA and the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will provide free trolley service between the Power Vista and the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center in Niagara Falls.

The Power Vista is located at 5777 Lewiston Road in Lewiston. Admission and parking is always free. For more information, call 716-286-6661 or email [email protected].
