Whirlpool State Park advisory

Beginning immediately, access at Whirlpool State Park will be partially limited due to construction to rebuild the overlook and rim trail.

The area along the gorge edge will be fenced off to the public, but the trail area to the south of the main overlook will remain open in order to afford views of the rapids and whirlpool. Signage will be put in place to direct patrons to this open area.

Additionally, a detour will be in place on the lower trail to protect hikers from potential falling debris. As always, trail users should use extreme caution when enjoying the gorge.

As the project progresses, the area near the pavilion will be closed, as well.

Lastly, several parking spots in southwest corner of the parking lot will be occupied for staging of the construction crew.

Work is expected to continue through November.
