The WNY Ovarian Cancer Project announces the start of its third annual geranium sale.

All sales are pre-paid. Geranium pickup dates are May 8 (World Ovarian Cancer Day) and May 9 at locations in Buffalo, Hamburg, Amherst and, new this year, the Village of Lewiston. The zonal geraniums are direct from the grower and come in "patriot red," "evening salmon glow," "maestro pink," "patriot red" and a hot pink called "berry parfait."

Special pricing is available for businesses. Orders can be placed online on the organizations website, http://www.wnyovariancancerproject.org/geraniums.html, or by calling 716-946-6437 for an order form.

At the WNY Ovarian Cancer Project, staffers understand how overwhelming it is for a woman to hear the news "You have ovarian cancer." The monies raised via the annual geranium sale fund WNY Ovarian Cancer Project's supportive services programs.

In 2014, WNY OCP added two new professionally facilitated support groups.

"Studies have shown that support groups are extremely helpful in improving women's lives. Our support groups offer the opportunities to share experiences and emotions and receive trusted information in a secure and caring environment," said Kathy Kurtz, LCSW group facilitator.

Funds raised also support the WNY OCP's "Comfort & Hope Tote" program. Totes are given to women newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the time of diagnosis, letting them know there are others who have gone through the surgeries, chemotherapy and treatments they are facing, and that they have support and, most importantly, hope.

At a most vulnerable time, "Comfort & Hope Totes" can be a beacon of light, camaraderie and understanding when it is needed most.

All of the programs of the WNY OCP are provided free of charge.

To learn more about the symptoms and risks of ovarian cancer, visit the WNY Ovarian Cancer Project website at www.wnyovariancancerproject.org. Volunteers answer questions and distribute literature on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer at local health fairs, community events and conferences. Sign up to volunteer at http://wnyovariancancerproject.org/join.html.

The WNY Ovarian Cancer Project is a not-for-profit organization founded by women who lived with ovarian cancer and lived to talk about it. WNY OCP educates women in the 12 counties of Western New York.
