2015 marks the 10th year Grand Island High School business teacher and DECA club adviser Cheryl Chamberlain has taken her qualifying students to the New York State DECA Conference in Rochester. This year was the largest contingent of GI DECA as 54 traveled to states, where over 2,000 people were in attendance.

Students competed in business simulations and were immersed in a professional environment over their stay. Grand Island took home numerous medals and trophies for their efforts. There were many "firsts" this year for GI DECA, including the attendance of four middle school students accompanied by advisor Mary Jane Fonte. In addition, Grand Island had nine high school students qualify to attend the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida, which is the most students ever in GI DECA to make it to nationals at once.

Going to nationals are: Ashley Franz, Maria Ramsperger, Cole Kline, Eric Albrecht, Natalie Braun, Carly Hand, Natalia Christiano, Laura Taylor and Alyssa Pelosi.

Local Grand Island business leader Fahim Mojawalla of the Island Ship Center on Whitehaven Road and former GI DECA student Kaitlyn Czerwonka served as state judges, and the students were happy to see them at the competition.

DECA, an international business and marketing club, boasts over 200,000 members worldwide and seeks to prepare emerging leaders in the business field.
