The days are getting longer. The mercury has finally gone above the freezing mark. Dare to think spring.

To usher in the season, the New York Power Authority will hold its annual "Eggstravaganza" March 28 at the Power Vista, the visitors center for the Niagara Power Plant in Lewiston.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will include free photos with the Easter Bunny until 2 p.m., a scavenger hunt, food sold by Boy Scout Troop 855 of Lewiston, crafts with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and face-painting by members of the Lockport YMCA Teen Leaders group.

Masons from the New York Masonic Safety ID Program will be on hand to provide parents, guardians, college students and seniors with free safety ID packets. Visitors who sign up will receive a compact disc, personalized with a digital photograph, fingerprints and other vital statistics that can be an invaluable aid to law enforcement if a loved one goes missing.

State Parks will provide free rides on its Niagara Scenic Trolley between the Gorge Discovery Center and the Niagara Power Vista during the event.

Guests are invited to enjoy the Power Vista's attractions, which include displays and interactive exhibits related to the production of electricity, energy efficiency and the area's history, as well as unique views from the observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge.

The Power Vista is located at 5777 Lewiston Road. Parking and admission is always free. For more information, contact the Niagara Project Power Vista at 716-286-6661 or email [email protected].
