Buffalo Museum of Science prepares for first 'MessFest'

Fri, Mar 6th 2015 07:45 am

The Buffalo Museum of Science will hold its first "MessFest" event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at 1020 Humboldt Parkway, Buffalo. MessFest invites families to explore science through messy experiments and demonstrations, including homemade slime, shaving cream, liquid nitrogen and erupting volcanoes.

"The MessFest event concept is a growing trend across science centers and museums nationwide," museum President and CEO Mark Mortenson said. "Given the less-than-desirable weather our region has experienced this winter, we decided this would be a perfect opportunity to get curious kids out of the house and have some messy science fun in ways parents would not allow at home."

The museum's MessFest will feature several activity stations throughout the museum's four floors, including:

  • Oobleck "Slime" Run
  • Shaving Cream Chaos
  • Making Snots, Why Not?!
  • Volcano Blast-Off!
  • Toothpaste Eruptions
  • Liquid Nitrogen Mania
  • Powder Painting
  • Diet Coke and Mentos Explosions

The museum stresses that attendees will get messy and may want to consider bringing a change of clothes.

Admission to MessFest is included with general museum admission ($10 adults, $9 seniors, $8 children 2-17) and free for members and children under two. Admission is payable at the door.
