Chief Warrant Officer Shane D. Mott was commissioned under the chief warrant officer program Jan. 29 at Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific located on historic Ford Island, Hawaii. Mott, son of Neil and Margaret Mott, hails from Friendship and is a 1996 graduate of Friendship High School.

CWO2 Mott has 17 years, four months in the Navy. When asked how he felt about his accomplishment, he said, "I am truly humbled by this opportunity to continue in the U.S. Navy. I can't thank those who've sacrificed and supported me so that I could reach this achievement, especially my sons, Dominik and Aaron Mott, who make sacrifices every day back in Virginia so that I can perform my duties as ordered."

CWO2 Mott is under orders to report to the USS George Washington (CVN 73) in Japan as a quality assurance supervisor.
