Super Bowl open features new lyrics and design elements

Six-time Grammy Award-winner and multi-platinum recording artist Carrie Underwood returns to star in the special "Waiting All Day for a Super Bowl Fight" opening theme for NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX Sunday, Feb. 1. Each week of the past two NFL seasons, Underwood's performance of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" has kicked off "Sunday Night Football," primetime television's No. 1 program.

The opening theme for NBC's coverage of Super Bowl XLIX will contain new elements, including lyrics featuring the AFC champion New England Patriots and NFC champion Seattle Seahawks, and a special set design.

"I'm so honored to again be a part of the Super Bowl, this time joining NBC Sports in helping kick everything off! I can't wait to watch the game!" Underwood said.

NBC will broadcast Super Bowl XLIX from Glendale, Arizona. Coverage kicks off at noon ET.

Underwood emerged from the promise of her 2005 "American Idol" win to become a true multi-format, multimedia superstar, spanning achievements in music, television and film, where the six-time Grammy Award winner has amassed more than 95 major honors, sold more than 64 million records worldwide, and recorded 18 No. 1 singles, nine of which she co-wrote.
