WNED ǀ WBFO to air program honoring WNY's unsung heroes

"Making a Difference" airs Feb. 2; seeking nominations for 2015

Last January, WNED | WBFO Buffalo-Toronto launched an initiative to recognize everyday citizens of Western New York who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities. "Making a Difference" was created to capture the stories of true champions who dedicate their time to worthy causes, emphasize the importance of volunteerism and encourage others to step in and lend a helping hand. The response was overwhelming, as more than 300 nominations were received for this recognition.

"The selection process was awe-inspiring," said Donald K. Boswell, WNED ǀ WBFO president and CEO. "We read story after story of the remarkable work that's being done to strengthen Western New York and are thrilled that we can tell the stories of eight very deserving honorees."

"Making a Difference," which airs Monday, Feb. 2 (9 p.m.), on WNED-TV, will highlight eight individuals in a half-hour television documentary and with radio spotlights airing throughout February on WBFO-FM 88.7.

"Making a Difference" honorees for 2014 include:

• Aaron Bartley (co-founder, PUSH Buffalo)
• Sister Janet DiPasquale (LCSW/director, TRY - Teaching and Restoring Youth)
• Myron Glick, M.D. (founder and chief medical officer, Jericho Road Community Health Center)
• Ken Hansen (president, Amanda Hansen Foundation)
• Willie "Hutch" Jones (president, Willie "Hutch" Jones Educational and Sports Programs)
• Greg Kowal (Wish Kid and volunteer fundraiser for The Make-A-Wish Foundation)
• John Mika (founder, The Teacher's Desk)
• MarCe Zerrate (founder, Amor and Heritage Dance Co. and ColumbiaWNY.org)

WNED ǀ WBFO is currently seeking nominations for the 2015 program. Individuals wishing to nominate a community hero can fill out an online form at wned.org or request a paper nomination form by emailing [email protected] or calling 716-845-7000, ext. 251.
