The K-Kids of Errick Road Elementary recently initiated a service program for the benefit of Joyful Rescue, a nonprofit pet rescue organization serving the Western New York region, with the motto, "Saving adoptable pets and bringing love to your home, one tail at a time."

The K-Kids decided on the venture and organized, promoted and carried out the service project. By encouraging Errick Road's students, teachers and staff to gather supplies, including pet leashes, collars, blankets, pet food, treats, shampoos, basic cleaning supplies and office supplies, the K-Kids were able to essentially fill a classroom. The ample collection of goods eventually required members of Joyful Rescue to make multiple trips to transport the items to their center of operations.

Just as the Joyful Rescue project was wrapping up, the Errick Road. K-Kids initiated their next program. They chose to participate in Niagara-Wheatfield High School's Adopt-a-Tree/Adopt-a-Family venture. Bearing a movie theme in mind, a Christmas/holiday tree was decorated with paraphernalia of various movies, past and present. The decorated tree is part of the high school's annual tree auction. This auction is to raise money for needy families of the community. The trees that are not bought are given to local families to brighten their holidays.

This is the second year of the K-Kids program at Errick Road. The K-Kids are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield and advised by school counselors Jenn Henry and Liz Antonelli.
