Assemblyman John Ceretto, member of the New York State Assembly Transportation Committee, has announced the New York State Department of Transportation has released grant funding for the New York State Parks Transportation Alternatives Program. A total of $70 million has been awarded to fund 68 bicycle, pedestrian and multi-use path transportation projects across New York.

"I thank the NYSDOT and Federal Highway Administration for providing the funding for these projects, which will help spur economic growth and promote tourism in communities across the state," Ceretto said. "This funding will allow New Yorkers to continue to enjoy the many state parks and recreational opportunities our state has to offer. I am glad my district has been able to secure some of this funding, as Niagara Falls remains one of our most treasured landmarks."

Of the $70 million awarded through the Transportation Alternatives Program, the City of Niagara Falls received $404,000 for the Buffalo Avenue streetscape project, and the Town of Grand Island received $1,600,000 for the West Niagara River trail.

The project provides new sidewalks, improved pedestrian access to public transportation services, construction of new bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and the preservation and conversion of abandoned railroad corridors for trail use.
