The family of Paul Prozeller Sr. sadly announces his death, Sept. 22, 2014, at Waianae, Hawaii, at the age of 92, due to a stroke.

Born June 6, 1922, in Niagara Falls, he was the son of Peter J. and May (Newcomb) W. Prozeller. Paul was a long-time Youngstown resident before retiring to Hawaii.

Paul attended both Niagara Falls High School and Newfane High School, where he completed his secondary education. Pursuing undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, he received his bachelor's degree. He was president of his fraternity, Sigma Chi, at Michigan. Following his undergraduate studies, Paul attended radar technical school for the Navy at Cornell University, followed by several enlistments as lieutenant junior grade on the J Douglass Blackwood in the Panama Canal Zone, and following World War II in the Pacific theater (principally Tokyo). He was honorably discharged.

Paul was the youngest of seven children and predeceased by them all: Elsa, Peter, Newcomb, Clare, May and Jean. He had three children: Susan Yamane Carpenter of Waianae, Hawaii, (with Cynthia Merritt); Paul Prozeller Jr. of Lyon, France; Karen Olin of Lewiston (with Marbud Gagen); and one stepson, David E. Levine of Asheville, North Carolina.

The majority of Paul's career was served in the capacity of a mechanical engineer as it related to the specialty metal alloys industry. He was employed by Pittsburg Metallurgical, Union Carbide and, later, Elkem Metals, all of Niagara Falls. In addition to being based in Niagara Falls, he completed various short-term assignments in Calvert City, Kentucky; Alloy, West Virginia; Ashtabula, Ohio; and Oil City, Pennsylvania. He traveled extensively in Europe, purchasing industrial equipment in his capacities as lead project engineer. Of particular note were his project leadership achievements of building an extensive metals smelting facility in Grundartangy, Iceland, as well as in Chicoutimi, Quebec.

Paul enjoyed rebuilding vintage Ford Model A vehicles as well as gardening, cooking and extensive hikes around the Niagara area and while on work trips throughout West Virginia.

He will be sadly missed by his family.
