Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Sept. 26, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 345 calls from Sept. 6 to 19. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 19 burglary false alarm calls and nine fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Sept. 6

•Webb Road, youth activity - A complainant stated several youths were sitting in the middle of the road during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons in the roadway.

•Ransom Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a subject on a motorcycle was speeding up and down the roadway. Deputies located the motorcycle at a nearby residence and advised the driver.

•Island Park Drive, disorderly person - A complainant stated several intoxicated subjects were yelling and staggering down the road during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any intoxicated subjects.

Sunday, Sept. 7

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole a small sum of money from her purse.

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a neighboring residence during the middle of the day. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the occupants.

•Bedell Road, fire - A complainant stated she saw heavy smoke north of her apartment complex. Deputies determined the fire was in Niagara County and agencies from that area were already on the scene handling the incident.

•Baseline Road, open door - A driver flagged down a deputy and reported there was an open door at Tully Products, but the business appeared to be closed for the day. Deputies searched the inside of the building and found no persons inside. The open door was determined to be an oversight.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a vehicle was driving on the bike path. Deputies located the vehicle and determined the driver was an employee who was conducting maintenance on the cell tower located just off the path.

•Grand Island Boulevard, marijuana possession/warrant arrest - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 39-year-old man and 38-year-old woman from Buffalo after the subjects lied about the man's true identity in an attempt to conceal that he had a felony parole warrant issued for his arrest. The man was charged with false personation (a class B misdemeanor), unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and endangering the welfare of a child (a class A misdemeanor). The woman was charged with obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor), endangering the welfare of a child (a class A misdemeanor) and a traffic violation. Both subjects were transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending their arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

Monday, Sept. 8

•Baseline Road, lockout - A complainant stated she was unable to get into her apartment building during the late hours of the night. Deputies assisted the subject inside.

•Baseline Road, property found - Deputies located a book bag on the side of the road with miscellaneous items inside. The bag was taken to the Erie County Sheriff's Office's Grand Island substation to be claimed if an owner came forward.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a local business. No injuries were reported.

•Waterford Park, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in the recent day, someone put a doughnut in the gas filler of her vehicle. No damage was observed.

Tuesday, Sept. 9

•Pin Oak Circle, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated his unsecured bicycle was stolen from Grand Island High School while he was attending practice.

•Carter Drive, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle pulled into her driveway during the late evening hours and she could see a subject walking around the car. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the occupants, who left without incident.

Wednesday, Sept. 10

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that during the previous night she awoke and saw an unknown male figure leaving her residence. Deputies checked the residence and found no signs of forced entry. Nothing was reported stolen.

•Ransom Road, accident injury / traffic arrest - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 47-year-old woman from Youngstown for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree (a misdemeanor) after a check showed her license was currently suspended. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. One driver was transported to a local hospital with not seemingly life-threatening injuries.

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of an apartment complex. No injuries were reported.

•South State Parkway, traffic control device - Deputies observed the traffic signal at the intersection of Love Road was not operating. National Grid was notified.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a boat was shining a spotlight from the river toward the shoreline during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area and spoke to a nearby boater, who did not see any vessels in distress.

Thursday, Sept. 11

•Colonial Drive West, loud music - A complainant stated a loud radio was playing from a nearby residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music but were unable to make contact with the occupants.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident into a building. No injuries were reported.

•Bishops Gate, reckless operation - A complainant stated a motorbike was speeding up and down the road during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Friday, Sept. 12

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated three subjects appeared to be looking into cars in the parking lot of a restaurant during the late hours of the night. Deputies located one subject and advised him. Nothing was reported stolen.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property found - A complainant stated a syringe was found in the grass near a business. Deputies secured the syringe and disposed of it in a sharps container at the Grand Island substation.

•Alvin Road, larceny - Employees of a business stated that another employee used a company credit card to put gasoline into his private vehicle. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Hamburg for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Woodstream Drive, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated several youths were driving around the area and seemed to be canvassing the neighborhood. Deputies located the vehicle and determined the occupants were employees of a construction company that was completing work in the area.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a business. No injuries were reported.

Saturday, Sept. 13

•Whitehaven Road, youth activity - A complainant stated several youths appeared to be throwing rocks at vehicles in River Oaks Marina during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the youths and determined they were throwing water balloons. No damage was reported.

•Love Road, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a business during the late hours of the night. Deputies advised employees on location and the music was turned down.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees of a business stated that a customer was on location and was causing a disturbance in the store. Deputies advised the subject, who then left without incident.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a phone company box on the side of the road was open and no one was nearby. Deputies determined the incident to be an oversight as it appeared recent maintenance had been conducted.

•Park Lane, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a vehicle was parked near the dead end and the subjects inside went into the wooded area during the late evening hours. Deputies located the subjects and advised them. The subjects left without incident.

•Marilyn Drive, youth activity - A complainant stated several youths were in the neighborhood ringing doorbells and then running away. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths.

Sunday, Sept. 14

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was swerving all over the road and then appeared to pick up a subject walking on the side of the road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•South State Parkway, drunk - A complainant, who was driving by, saw a male subject fall off his bicycle. Deputies located the subject, who was intoxicated, and assisted him by contacting a family member to come pick him up.

•Love Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a subject who was possibly intoxicated got into a pickup truck and drove away. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

Monday, Sept. 15

•Alvin Road, larceny - Employees of a car dealership stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole several inspection stickers from the business.

•Colonial Drive West, suspicious incident - A complainant stated her car alarm went off during the late evening hours. The complainant then heard another car alarm activate somewhere in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons.

Tuesday, Sept. 16

•Colonial Drive West, loud music - A complainant stated a radio was playing loudly during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke with the occupants and advised them.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated a male subject was sleeping on the ground in a business parking lot. Deputies located the subject, who was trying to stay out of the rain.

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - Employees of a restaurant stated that, sometime during the night, someone egged the building and wrote on it with magic marker.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated a male subject was sleeping on the lawn of the Grand Island Town Hall. Deputies located the subject and advised him. The subject left without incident.

Wednesday, Sept. 17

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Sunset Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a vehicle was parked near the end of the street and believed the owner may be a hunter. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

Thursday, Sept. 18

•West River Road, neighbor dispute - Deputies responded to a report of a neighbor dispute. The subjects had a disagreement over the property line and were advised.

•Wallace Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a subject was inside a vacant house during the evening hours. Deputies located the subject and determined he was conducting maintenance on the residence.

Friday, Sept. 19

•Huth Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Garden Parkway, illegal dumping - A complainant stated a subject in a pickup truck was dumping rubbish at the dead end of the street. Deputies located the subject, who was disposing of tree trimmings. The subject removed the trimmings and left without incident.

•Cardinal Lane, larceny - A complainant stated that, at an unknown time, someone stole a ladder from his garage and some firewood from his back step.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a business. Deputies checked the premises but were unable to locate any person in need of police assistance.

•East River Road, hunters - A complainant stated he heard what appeared to be an airsoft pistol discharge in the area while he was walking his dog. Deputies checked the area but were unable to hear any more shots.
