Sports Hall of Fame adds 11

The Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame voted in 11 new inductees that comprise the class of 2014 at a recent board of directors meeting.

This diverse group includes Fran Bax, an outstanding bowler, Mark Cheers, a Golden Gloves champion, Jack Dunmead, a state badminton and tennis hall of famer, Bob Koshinski, a broadcaster and sports promoter, Willie Moore, a wrestling All-American and Jim Zakia, a drag racing record setter.

Others voted in included Gary Barrette, Jim Bradshaw, Oscar Colvin, Tony Genova and Shawn O'Leary for their accomplishments as players and/or coaches of basketball, baseball and/or football.

Baseballer Joe Promowitz will receive The Robert Eagler Memorial Award, given each year to a deceased candidate.

These individuals were voted in for their contributions to the community as outstanding athletes and or coaches, managers, organizers, officials, athletic directors, sponsors, sports promoters and volunteers. Eligible recipients must be 55 years of age or older to be considered. The organization, originally The Old Timers Sports Hall Of Fame, was established in 1968 and 290 members have been inducted.

The induction dinner will be held at The Como Restaurant Saturday, Oct. 25. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children age 10 and under. Contact Tony Quaranto at for tickets or to reserve a table.
