Girl Scouts of Western New York is hosting the Great Girl Scout Sign Up Day at various locations throughout Western New York, including at Nike Base Park on Grand Island, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Throughout Western New York and in Erie County, girls are invited to participate in Girl Scout activities to get a "taste" of Girl Scouting, and they can join on the spot at the event.
The Great Girl Scout Sign Up Day will allow girls to try Girl Scout crafts and leadership activities. They'll experience the fun and friendship of Girl Scouts first hand. At the same time, parents can learn how Girl Scouting makes a difference in so many girls' lives. Under the guidance of adult mentors, girls test their own limits so they can learn more about themselves. Compared to non-Girl Scout alumnae, women who were Girl Scouts tend to have a stronger sense of self, according to the Girl Scout Research Institute.
Plus, Girl Scouts are more likely to pursue higher education and have a higher income, according to "Girl Scouting Works: The Alumnae Impact Study."
Girls can join at any time and begin their own quest by calling 1-888-837-6410 or by joining at www.gswny.org.
