Lifelong Lewiston resident Beth Ceretto this week announced her candidacy for the Lewiston Town Board, vowing to "work toward the greater harmony needed to move Lewiston forward."

"Like many communities, Lewiston is facing challenges and we need leadership that will unify the community and get down to the business of solving our problems," the mother of four said. "I want to offer our residents an independent voice that they can trust to work for our town, for our taxpayers, and for our future."

Ceretto continued, "Everything we do in town government needs to reflect our concern for our children and the future of our town. That means working to ensure we have a healthy environment, low taxes, sound infrastructure and stable finances. We need a town government our families can trust and respect."

Ceretto, who has owned and operated ChaCha's Child Care Center in Lewiston for more than 20 years, is a Lewiston-Porter High School graduate, and says that as a lifelong town resident, she is concerned about the direction of town government. "It's time for our civic leaders to put aside politics and get down to the work they were elected to do" Ceretto said. "I'm a political independent, and will always vote my conscience. But more importantly, I will work with the rest of the board and our supervisor to get the type of positive results the residents of Lewiston expect and deserve."

As the owner of a regulated small business, Ceretto stated, "I understand the need to properly budget, and use every dollar as effectively as possible. Small business is one of the cornerstones of our town's economy. I intend to make sure our town is friendly to those who create jobs, but will always ensure we protect our environment, and preserve the unique character, history and lifestyle our residents enjoy."

Ceretto said that she is "deeply invested" in the success of her hometown, noting that her own children all attended St. Peter R.C. School before graduating from Lewiston-Porter. She has shown a long-term commitment to Lewiston by devoting both her time and energy to assist many of the local civic groups. Among them are the Sanborn Historical Society, Lewiston Council on the Arts, Heart and Soul, and the Kiwanis Club's Peach Festival. She is also an active member of the Lewiston Council on the Arts, has served as a member of the executive board of the Lewiston Historical Society, and is currently the vice-president of Lewiston No. 2 Volunteer Fire Co.

Ceretto, a registered Independence Party member, will seek the support of the Independence, Republican, and Conservative parties on November's ballot.
