Obit: Noreen E. O'Connell

Noreen E. O'Connell, 64, of Lewiston died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, after a lengthy illness, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

 Noreen was born Feb. 8, 1950, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Francis and Rosemary (Strain) Sloan. She and her family moved to Cranford, New Jersey, in 1961. She graduated from Cranford High School in 1968 and attended Union College. From 1971 to 1982, Noreen lived in Germany and worked with the American Red Cross as a coordinator of emergency services for the U.S. military. On Dec. 31, 1985, she married Patrick J. O'Connell and moved to Lewiston.

Noreen had a long career in real estate in New York and New Jersey, where she managed and was a broker for many local real estate agencies. A devout Catholic, Noreen had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and attended Our Lady of Fatima Shrine. She also volunteered at the Heart & Soul Food Pantry in Niagara Falls. A talented artist, she created many drawings and paintings. Above all, Noreen loved her family and friends. 

She is survived by her husband, Patrick; a daughter, Jenevieve K. (Robert) Nablo; and a son, Kenneth O. Cobb-O'Connell, both of Lewiston; a beloved granddaughter, Kathleen Nablo; two sisters, Ann (Jerry) McGovern of Cranford, and Elizabeth (Robert) Power of Garwood, New Jersey; two brothers, Thomas (Gail) Sloan and Robert (Marie) Sloan, both of Westfield, New Jersey; and a sister in law, Cindy Sloan of Annapolis, Maryland. She was predeceased by a brother, James Sloan. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. in St. Peter R.C. Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston. The Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma will officiate.

There will be no prior visitation. Guests should assemble at the church. Burial will follow in the Dickersonville Cemetery in Lewiston.
