Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Sept. 12, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 183 calls from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 10 burglary false alarm calls and six fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Aug. 30

•Stony Point Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a male subject was laying on the side of the road next to a vehicle with a female subject standing over him during the early morning hours. The two subjects left in the vehicle prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Love Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a male subject was cutting tree limbs and left them hanging on the electrical wires. Deputies located the male subject but no limbs were observed hanging on the wires.

•Kirkwood Drive, shots fired - A complainant stated that he heard several gunshots near the area of his residence. Deputies checked the area and determined the noise was fireworks after speaking with neighbors, but no persons were found using said fireworks.

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from tavern during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke with employees on location, who turned the music down.

Sunday, Aug. 31

•East River Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a dog was barking for a long time somewhere in the neighborhood during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the dogs and advised the owner.

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the occupants.

•West River Parkway, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located two vehicles parked on the side of the road during the late hours of the night. The occupants were advised and left without incident.

•Calvano Drive, animal loose - A complainant stated that two dogs were running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a camper arrived at a business and appeared to have a bullet hole in it. Deputies determined the hole was made by a tow bar connected to the motor home.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a restaurant. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several needles were laying on the side of the road on the overpass of the I-190. Deputies located the needles and disposed of them in a sharps container at the substation.

•East River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a black labrador retriever was running loose in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Waterford Park, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a person who applied for a pistol permit.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a business. No injuries were reported.

Monday, Sept. 1

•Pellamwood Court, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a neighboring residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the occupants.

•Laurie Lane, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from somewhere in the neighborhood during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner.

•I-190, warrant arrest - Deputies took custody of a 32-year-old man from the Niagara Falls Police Department after they took him into custody on an outstanding Family Court warrant issued from Erie County.

•Colonial Drive West, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a neighboring residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music but were unable to make contact with any of the occupants.

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 26-year-old woman from Sanborn for driving a motor vehicle with a suspended registration (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, animal complaint - A complainant stated a dog was left in a vehicle in the parking lot of a business. Deputies located the owner of the dog and advised her. The dog did not appear to be injured in any way.

•Crescent Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a person who applied for a pistol permit.

•Enola Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the road and almost struck his vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle at the registered owner's address and advised the driver.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Love Road, traffic control device - Deputies notified the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition for a light bulb that was out on the traffic signal at the intersection of South State Parkway.

Tuesday, Sept. 2

•Broadway, animal loose - A complainant stated that two dogs were running loose during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the owner and the dogs were returned to the residence.

•East Park Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•I-190, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 26-year-old man from Buffalo for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $250 bail.

•Love Road, larceny - Employees of a restaurant stated that on two separate occasions a known subject stole alcohol from the premises. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown person was knocking at her door during the late evening hours. The complainant learned it was her son's friend prior to the arrival of patrol and stated she no longer required police assistance.

Wednesday, Sept. 3

•Whitehaven Road, driving while intoxicated by drugs - Following an investigation of a disturbance, deputies arrested a 22-year-old woman for driving while intoxicated by drugs and other traffic infractions after she struck a sheriff's deputy with her vehicle at a low speed in the parking lot of the substation. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. The sheriff's deputy was transported to a local hospital with not seemingly life-threatening injuries.

•Grand Island Boulevard, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a dog was locked inside of a vehicle in the parking lot of a business. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the owner.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Thursday, Sept. 4

•Baseline Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated a vehicle was sitting in the parking lot of the post office and appeared to be occupied by a male subject. Deputies located the vehicle and spoke to the subject, who stated he was waiting for the post office to open so he could pick up a package.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was dancing around in traffic near Bedell Road. Deputies located the male subject and advised him.

•Stony Point Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone damaged her vehicle by hitting it with a hammer.

•Second Street, suspicious person - A complainant stated two subjects were outside of her residence looking in the windows during the late evening hours. The subjects fled on foot prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects by the description given. No damage was reported.

Friday, Sept. 5

•West River Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down. National Grid was notified.

•Baseline Road, traffic control device - Deputies observed the traffic light at the intersection of Love Road was not working. The Grand Island Highway Department responded and connected the light to a generator.

•East River Road, customer trouble - Employees of a tavern stated that two intoxicated subjects refused to leave and were causing a disturbance. The subjects left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.
