Carol Calato, board chairwoman of the Lewiston Jazz Festival Inc., has reported Sandy Hays Mies stepped down as executive director of the organization.

Calato said it was with regret the board accepted Mies' resignation.

"Sandy has served in a leadership position with the Jazz Festival since its inception in 2001," Calato said. "During her tenure, the Jazz Festival has experienced tremendous growth and success. What began as a one-evening event drawing a few hundred has now grown into an internationally recognized festival that draws over 50,000 to Lewiston over a two-day period. She is credited with overseeing most aspects of the festival and mobilizing over $117,000 in annual sponsorships. Her leadership will be missed."

Mies is president of Limelight of WNY, an events management and marketing corporation.

"I am proud of the role that I have played the growth and success of this premiere WNY music festival," Mies said. "I have worked alongside the Jazz Festival board for the past 13 years, and I am very proud of what we have accomplished together. "

She said her company would remain active; this change will allow her to focus more energy and attention on her marketing clients.

Calato said a search committee has been formed to find a replacement.

"While we will miss working with Sandy, the board is looking forward to the continued growth and success of the festival," Calato said.
