Susan Geissler, a nationally known sculptor of historic monuments, will speak at the Niagara Arts Guild meeting Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dale Association, Room 127, 33 Ontario St., Lockport.

Geissler has sculpted for public commissions in cities in New York, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, and in Manitoba, and completed two recent sculptures in Lewiston. She has just been chosen to sculpt a monument for the "Flight of Five" Erie Canal locks, now under construction in Lockport. Her Lewiston monuments, cast in larger than life-size bronze, include the Freedom Crossing and Tuscarora Heroes.

Geissler was honored with her selection as a member of the Allied Artists of America, established in 1914, and the National Sculpture Society, established in 1893. She is a recipient of NCCC's 2009 distinguished alumni award and Lewiston-Porter's distinguished alumni award in 2010; was chosen to address the opening symposium of the largest sculpture show in the U.S.; and is a winner of the Niagara Beautification Commission Champion's Award for her restoration of "Lady Liberty."

Geissler will show and demonstrate the techniques of creating large-scale cast bronze sculptures from clay maquette to over-life size finished bronze monuments. The public is invited to the meeting and presentation.
