Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, a Niagara Falls native and ranking minority member of the Assembly Tourism Committee, today pledged to work with Niagara Falls Redevelopment Executive Roger Trevino to build a new multipurpose arena in the region. Ceretto cited the arena's ability to hold numerous entertainment and sporting events as well as conventions in the "off-season" as a main reason for supporting the project.

"Building a modern multiuse arena will provide our area with a state-of-the-art facility, which will showcase various sporting events, concerts and conventions throughout the year to help combat the typical off-season lull after the tourist season and provide a needed boost to our local economy," Ceretto said. "The multiuse arena will do wonders to make our region a year-round travel destination, and will drive the necessary revenue for new hotels entering our region.

"Building this arena will create the demand necessary to support several development projects announced by Gov. Cuomo, such as 'Wonder Falls' and the eight-to-10-plus announced hotels in the development pipeline.

"I am proud to support Niagara Falls Redevelopment's purposed arena, and I strongly believe that this ... type of innovative project will greatly enhance our growing tourist industry and give us a competitive advantage in vying for visitor dollars."
