Five new distinguished student scholarship recipients will be showcased at the annual NCCC Foundation Scholarship Gala Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute.

This award is the most prestigious scholarship offered by the NCCC Foundation to incoming freshman. It provides two years of tuition-free education to deserving students. The individuals were selected based on their academic excellence, service to the community and loyalty to Niagara County.

"Being chosen for this prestigious award is a great honor and has lifted much of the financial burden of college tuition. For that I am sincerely thankful," said Jennifer, a 2014 distinguished student scholar recipient. Kevin, another recipient, said, "This gives me an opportunity to grow. I am eager to begin my college career and look forward to seeing the future open up before me."

During the 2013-14 academic year, more than $160,000 was awarded to nearly 200 students. New awards, such as the Delaware North Scholarship, Covanta Niagara Scholarship and the Canada Family Scholarship, have been added to the long list of financial opportunities for students. Visit the NCCC website at www.niagaracc.suny.edu/scholarships for a full listing of available scholarships.

The deadline to apply for spring 2015 is Friday, Oct. 17.

The annual NCCC Foundation Scholarship Gala is the single largest fundraiser for student scholarships. The event will take place at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. Tickets are $125 per person. NCCC culinary and baking and pastry arts students will prepare dishes from around the world.

To purchase tickets and make reservations, visit the NCCC Foundation website at www.niagaracc.suny.edu/foundation or call the foundation office at 716-614-5910.
