Enjoy a stroll through the past with "The People of Cold Springs Cemetery," Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. The Niagara History Center's "Step Back in Time Players" will take participants back to the 19th century to visit with famous Lockportians of days gone by, now residing in Cold Springs Cemetery (4849 Cold Springs Road, Lockport).

Meet "Eli Lewis" (Henry Peters), greenhouse and floristry business owner; "Eliza Mossell" (Brenda Reaves), community leader and advocate for Lockport's African-Americans; "Jesse Hawley" (Dave Zimmerman), Erie Canal advocate and Lockport village treasurer; and "Hattie Moss" (Erin Linnabery), teenage niece of abolitionists Abijah and Laura Moss, and a member of their Underground Railroad household.

The visitors from yesteryear have many tales to tell as they come to life once again for the afternoon.

Tickets are $10. Call the History Center at 716-434-7433 for information and reservations.

A marker outside the gates of Lockport's Cold Springs Cemetery honors Erie Canal advocate Jesse Hawley, who is buried on the grounds. Hear Hawley's story and others at "The People of Cold Springs Cemetery" re-enactor tour Sept. 7.
