The Youngstown Police Department announced this week it was recently awarded a $500 grant to enable the department to purchase camera equipment for purposes of upgrading YPD's current capabilities.

YPD Chief Chris Salada said the Niagara County Law Enforcement Foundation recently released grant funding to assist Niagara County law enforcement agencies such as Youngstown's to acquire much-needed equipment. The Law Enforcement Foundation was founded in 1998 by former Sheriff Thomas A. Beilein and Undersheriff Samuel J. Muscarella Jr., with the goal to support local law enforcement efforts not funded by tax dollars. The foundation funds projects that support public safety and in turn provides increased safety to the citizens of the county and beyond.

"The monies will go toward replacing an antiquated department camera," said Salada. He added he appreciated the foundation's review board offering, which will work favorably toward the project. "This allows us to purchase equipment that otherwise would be cost prohibitive," he said.
