Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Aug. 15, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 205 calls from Aug. 2 to 8. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 13 burglary false alarm calls and 10 fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Aug. 2

•Settlers Row, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that someone pushed on his front door and rang the doorbell before fleeing during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a local business. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - An employee of a motel stated that a customer was refusing to leave his room after check out. Deputies advised the subject, who left without further incident.

•Carol Lane, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a restaurant. No injuries were reported.

•Colonial Drive East, barking dog - A complainant stated that several dogs at a nearby residence were barking for some time during the late evening hours. Deputies were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence. The dog control officer was notified.

•Pin Oak Circle, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several subjects were walking around a residence on the street with flashlights during the late evening hours. Deputies located the subject and determined it was a neighbor who had permission to be on the property.

•East River Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated that a party at a hotel was using Chinese Lanterns and the lanterns were landing on boats in the marina. Deputies spoke to the subjects and advised them. No damage was reported.

Sunday, Aug. 3

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a male subject was sleeping in a vehicle in a restaurant parking lot during the early morning hours. Deputies located and advised the subject, who left without incident.

•Stony Point Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated that a vehicle occupied by two males was driving down the street shooting bottle rockets out of the vehicle. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Woodstream Drive, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle drove up and down the street numerous times and randomly stopped in front of residences. The vehicle left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - A complainant stated that he paid for a motel room and when he went inside the room, noticed the room had not been cleaned. The complainant demanded a refund but the employee would not give him one. Deputies spoke to all parties involved and the money was refunded to the complainant.

•Whitehaven Road, property found - A complainant stated he found a wallet and wanted to turn it over to patrol. Deputies made numerous attempts to contact the owner by the identification found inside but were unable to do so.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that there was a motorcycle parked behind the dumpster of the a motel and no one was around it. Deputies located the owner and advised him.

•West River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle that did not belong there was parked in his driveway during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the owner of the vehicle who was visiting the complainant's neighbor.

Monday, Aug. 4

•Industrial Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from inside several storage containers on his property. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Huth Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he was unable to reach Huth Elementary School by telephone. Deputies spoke with staff on location and determined they were experiencing temporary problems with their phone service.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various services lines attached to the business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•White Tail Run, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a snake was in her garage. The snake left prior to the arrival of patrol.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a plaza. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had run out of gas.

•Huth Road, open burn - Deputies located a large fire burning in the yard of a residence on Huth Road. Deputies advised the occupant, who put the fire out with a garden hose.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated he heard the burglar alarm activate in his garage while he was inside his residence. Deputies checked the garage and determined the alarm to be unfounded.

•Ward Park Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a dog was barking for several hours during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Tuesday, Aug. 5

•Beaver Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she observed a male subject with a flashlight inside of her neighbor's car during the late hours of the night. The subject left on foot prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. Nothing was reported stolen.

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that while driving home he was cut off by a teenage driver in a pickup truck. Deputies spoke to all parties and advised them.

•Bedell Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a bat was flying around inside her residence. The bat flew out of the residence prior to the arrival of patrol.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road during the late evening hours of the night. Deputies spoke with the occupants, who stated they parked to talk. The occupants were advised and left without incident.

•Bush Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked near South State Parkway. Deputies advised the occupants, who left without incident.

Wednesday, Aug. 6

•West River Road, suspicious incident - Deputies located an open door on a vehicle parked in a driveway with no one around during the late hours of the night. Deputies secured the door and checked the area, but did not observe any other suspicious occurrences. Nothing was reported stolen.

•Fix Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated a male subject was walking behind her house in the woods during the early evening hours. Deputies located the male subject nearby and determined he was new to the area. The subject was advised and left without incident.

•South State Parkway, road obstruction - Deputies removed a broken cinder block from the roadway that was causing a traffic hazard.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject was walking through her yard during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects.

Thursday, Aug. 7

•Stony Point Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone spray-painted his garbage cans and egged his house. No damage was reported.

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the roadway. Deputies located the vehicle at the registered owners address and advised the driver.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down. National Grid was notified.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that an employee stole various cleaning supplies and stopped showing up for work. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bedell Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two subjects approached her in Veterans Park and were waving their hands during the late evening hours as she was leaving in her vehicle. Deputies located the subjects in the park and determined their vehicle had broken down. The subjects were assisted by patrol.

Friday, Aug. 8

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a business. Deputies checked the premises and were unable to locate any person in need of police assistance.

•Stony Point Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that her dog had gotten loose in the past few hours. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in a business parking lot. No injuries were reported.

•Blackmon Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a person who applied for a pistol permit.

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a restaurant during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke with employees on location, who turned the music off.
