The Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co.'s legendary Field Days may be history, but its end-of-summer celebrations will continue, just in a new setting.

YVFC officials reported this week that, yes, its long-popular parade, rides and midway offerings are no more at Veterans Park. But in its place will be a new socializing experience in the form of a beer tent complete with foods and entertainment to be open Friday, Aug. 29, and Saturday, Aug. 30, in a new location across from the firehall on the park grounds. "Starting this year, the YVFC is hosting a new venue," said midway committee Chairman Greg Quarantillo, pictured at center, with YVFC President Al Smith (left) and committee member Dave Kahl.

"You don't need to save Labor Day for Youngstown any more; spend it with your family."

But do include a visit to Veterans Park in your plans, he adds. On Friday and Saturday, there will be food, beer, wine and games of chance plus tear tickets available in the tent starting at 6 p.m., with entertainment both days starting at 8 p.m. Friday will feature Amp'd Up, with Teasers and 7th Heaven, while music by 90 West will be on stage Saturday.

Quarantillo adds that visitors can expect a return of Field Days favorite Welch's french fries among the tasty food offerings. And fireworks will be a part of the fun both evenings.

He invites area residents to come out, enjoy the experience and support the services of Youngstown Fire Co. A new ambulance is expected this summer. "Please come and support your fire company. Your donations are critical; without you we wouldn't exist," said Quarantillo.
