Niagara Organizing Alliance for Hope, or NOAH, a faith-based community organizing effort, will team with four congregations in Lockport to produce the first "Celebrate Lockport" event on Aug. 23.

The event is centered on the rich services and connections Lockport provides to its community.

First Presbyterian Church Lockport, Grace Episcopal Church, St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and Lockport United Church of Christ are organizing the event along with NOAH.

As a faith-based network, organizers said they seek to draw connections between those who need them and the services available to make life a little easier. They said Lockport has a 35 percent poverty rate, and there is a disconnect between the various services and advocacy groups that can support unemployed, youth, community leaders and public services employees.

Organizers said the celebration will bridge closer connections and unlock the rich sources of information by bringing the faith community, service community and broader community together under one big tent.

"Celebrate Lockport" will be held at St. John Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St., in the grass lot (northeast corner across from the church). The rain-or-shine event takes place from noon until 3 p.m.
