'Sharknado 2: The Second One' draws record-setting 3.9 million total viewers and 1 billion Twitter impressions

Most social movie on TV ever

Lions and tigers and sharks, oh my! Syfy's pop culture sensation "Sharknado 2: The Second One" absolutely devoured the world during Wednesday night's premiere, becoming the channel's most watched original movie ever with 3.9 million total viewers and 1.6 million Adults 18-49. The movie also averaged 1.8 million Adults 25-54.

"Sharknado 2" delivered 1 billion estimated impressions for "Sharknado" Twitter conversations.

At one point, "Sharknado 2" held all top 10 trending topics in the U.S. There were more mentions of "Sharknado" on Twitter than #MileyCyrus on the day of MTV's 2013 VMAs, #kimye on Kim and Kanye's wedding day, and #transformers4, #thelegomovie, #godzillamovie and #22jumpstreet on each movie's worldwide premiere day

"Sharknado 2" is the most social movie on TV ever.

In addition to the social media storm, "Sharknado 2" soared 183 percent among total viewers, 190 percent among Adults 18-49, and 185 percent among Adults 25-54, compared to the first "Sharknado" movie premiere on July 11, 2013.

"Sharknado 2" beat numerous broadcast programs in primetime, including CBS's "Extant," FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance," and ABC's "Motive" among Adults 18-49.

Syfy will unleash "Sharknado 2" again Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 9 p.m.

A production of The Asylum, "Sharknado 2" starred Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer and Judah Friedlander, with cameos including Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Perez Hilton, Judd Hirsch, Robert Klein, Kurt Angle, Salt N' Pepa's Pepa (Sandra Denton), Biz Markie, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan, Richard Kind, Kelly Oxford, Billy Ray Cyrus, Wil Wheaton and Robert Hays.

"Sharknado 2" was directed by Anthony C. Ferrante from a screenplay by Thunder Levin.
