Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for July 18, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 197 calls from July 5 to 11. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 11 burglary false alarm calls and seven fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, July 5

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a nearby motel during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the occupants.

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a boat that was docked at a business during the late hours of the night. The occupants of the boat were advised.

•Havenwood Lane, animal bite - A complainant stated he was bitten by a dog while on the bike path. The dog control officer was notified.

•Stony Point Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke with the occupants and determined children playing with the phone made the call.

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a tavern during the late evening hours of the night. Employees of the bar were advised.

•International Drive, fireworks use - A complainant stated that loud fireworks were being used at a residence somewhere in the area. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Sunday, July 6

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a boat that was docked at a tavern during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked but the boat left prior to the arrival of patrol.

•East River Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked at the East Overlook in Buckhorn State Park during the late hours of the night. The occupants of the vehicle were advised and left without incident.

•Bedell Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked at the entrance to the bike path during the late hours of the night. The driver of the vehicle was advised and left without incident.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly person - A complainant stated that an employee who was recently terminated was on location and causing a disturbance. The subject was escorted from the property by patrol without incident.

•Schwegler Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, Deputies arrested a 27-year-old man from Buffalo for driving a vehicle with a suspended registration (a misdemeanor) after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his registration was currently suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Whitehaven Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that his parked vehicle was struck while at a business by an unknown vehicle, which fled the area.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported

•Staley Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•East River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the roadway and was able to obtain a license plate number. Deputies located the vehicle at the registered owner's address and advised the driver.

•Baseline Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone broke into his home by prying open a door and stole various items from inside. Erie County Sheriff's Office detectives have since recovered some of the stolen property. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Monday, July 7

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call from a local business. Deputies spoke with employees on location and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Whitehaven Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. Minor injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 45-year-old woman from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a DMV check showed her license was currently revoked. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked at Kaegebein Elementary School during the late evening hours. The driver was advised and left without incident.

•Marilyn Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was walking up and down the road for approximately two hours during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the subject, who was having a conversation on his phone, and advised him.

•Beaver Island State Park, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked in Beaver Island State Park during the late hours of the night. The occupants were advised and left without incident.

Tuesday, July 8

•Bedell Road, open door - Deputies located an open door to a maintenance shed inside Veterans Park. Deputies checked and found no persons inside. The door was secured and determined to be an oversight.

•Lang Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call from a local business. Deputies spoke with employees on location and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Wednesday, July 9

•Bedell Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that an intoxicated male subject was harassing the lifeguards at the pool in an apartment complex. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Long Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Tracey Lane, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke with the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•South Colony Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths went into his docked boat and stole some alcohol. Deputies checked and determined with the complainant that nothing was stolen or damaged.

Thursday, July 10

•Parkview Drive, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked near Bush Road during the late hours of the night. Deputies were unable to make contact with the owner.

•Staley Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she heard a tapping sound on the windows to her residence during the late hours of the night but did not see any persons outside. Deputies checked the premises and found everything to be in order.

•Huth Road, animal loose - A complainant stated she went for a walk and was followed home by three small dogs. The dog control officer was notified.

•Long Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a person who applied for a pistol permit.

•White Oak Lane, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two subjects came to his residence selling tickets for a benefit to stop the violence in the City of Buffalo. Deputies located the subjects nearby and advised them.

•Spicer Creek Run, suspicious person - A complainant stated that several subjects were going door-to-door selling raffle tickets for a youth football program. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects by the description given.

Friday, July 11

•Love Road, shots fired - A complainant stated he heard several loud shots being fired from somewhere in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to hear any gunshots.

•Stony Point Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was speeding down the street. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Stony Point Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. Several subjects were treated on-scene for seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 33-year-old man from Buffalo for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a DMV check showed his license was currently revoked. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Stony Point Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole an unsecured bicycle from his yard.
