The Western New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen named Elizabeth Kahn its new executive director. She will be responsible for managing all aspects of the local affiliate office and directing Komen's mission in Western New York: A promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find the cure.

"Liz is an excellent addition to the organization," said Althea Luehrsen, board president of the Western New York affiliate. "Her unique experience as a communications professional and in the local health care industry, combined with her commitment and passion for our mission, will help us increase our impact in Western New York."

Kahn worked for 23 years as a journalist and senior editor for The Buffalo News, leaving in 2011. She was the executive director of Creating New Taxpayers, a social enterprise business, and most recently worked in marketing and communications as director of client and community relations for the MASH Care Network.

"Every Western New Yorker, in every town, in every neighborhood, and on every street knows someone touched by breast cancer. I plan to be sure that my work, along with a stunningly smart and active group of volunteers at Komen WNY, will help fight this disease at every turn," Kahn said. "I am thrilled and excited to be granted the opportunity to try."

Kahn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Penn State University. She lives in Buffalo.
