The Erie County Fair 5K returns Saturday, Aug. 9, at 9 a.m. at the Fairgrounds in Hamburg. This USTA certified 3.1-mile course is one of the flattest in Western New York. The starting and finish line are at the entrance of the grandstand. The race route takes participants through the Town and Village of Hamburg.

Pre-registration is $20; participants may register online at ecfair.org under the contests tab. Pre-registration is encouraged, however, racers may sign up beginning at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race for a $25 entry fee.

Runners will receive a commemorative long-sleeve dry-fit race shirt and two tickets to the fair (while supplies last). All runners will receive preferred parking on the fairgrounds.

All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K, however, no pets, skateboards, rollerblades or bicycles are allowed on the course. Water stations will be provided. Awards will be given to the top three males and females in each age division.

A post-race picnic will follow the race on the infield.

Pre-registered participants are encouraged to pick up their race packets Thursday, Aug. 7, from 4-7 p.m. at Bryant and Stratton College in Orchard Park. This will allow pre-registered runners to skip the line on race day and head straight to the start.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics of New York, an organization dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The program provides participants opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, Special Olympics athletes and the community.
