Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for June 13, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 202 calls from May 31 to June 6. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 14 burglary false alarm calls and two fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, May 31

•Carl Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was sleeping in the middle of the road. The male subject left on a bicycle before the arrival of patrol. Deputies located the intoxicated subject nearby and advised him.

•Carl Road, suspicious incident - While investigating the above complaint, deputies located the trunk of a vehicle open with no one around. The trunk was determined to be an oversight and was secured by patrol.

•Carl Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered her unsecured residence and stole her purse containing money and credit cards.

•River Oaks Drive, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Baseline Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man from Grand Island after serving a warrant at his residence. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at a business stated that a male subject stole a shopping cart full of merchandise and then left the store in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject. The incident was caught on video surveillance and the investigation is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a group of youths were hanging out behind a restaurant and playing with what appeared to be a gun. Deputies located the youths and determined the item the youths were playing with was a fishing pole.

•Fix Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 58-year-old woman from Buffalo for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree (a misdemeanor), operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed her license and registration were currently suspended. The woman was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $100 bail.

•Fix Road, warrant arrest - While investigating the above complaint, deputies also arrested the subject after a check showed she had an outstanding bench warrant from the City of Buffalo Court.

•Carl Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the previous night, someone entered her residence and stole various items from inside.

•Love Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a group of youths were walking down the street and looking into vehicles. Deputies located the youths nearby and advised them.

•Revere Road, loud music - A complainant stated that a band was playing in a nearby garage during the late evening hours. Deputies advised the subjects, who agreed to turn the music off.

•Baseline Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a dog was barking for several hours during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Sunday, June 1

•Majestic Woods Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole items from his unlocked vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, an unknown vehicle struck his vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot and then fled the scene.

•Town Hall Terrace, loud music - A complainant stated that a neighbor was playing loud music during the evening hours. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the subjects.

Monday, June 2

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located two unoccupied vehicles parked at a closed business during the late hours of the night. The business was checked and appeared secure.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a local business. No injuries were reported.

•Majestic Woods Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent nights, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a subject pulled out of a business and was driving recklessly down the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Waterford Park, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that a vehicle struck his mailbox and then fled the scene. Deputies located the vehicle at a nearby residence and issued the driver several traffic tickets.

•Fix Road, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated that a subject was riding down the street on a mini-bike without a helmet on. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a male subject was hanging out behind a business smoking a cigarette near the propane tanks. The subject left in a vehicle prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area and located the vehicle nearby using the description given by the complainant. The driver was advised.

Tuesday, June 3

•Whitehaven Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the road and ran through a red light. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

•Stony Point Road, road obstruction - Deputies removed a small tree that was laying in the roadway.

•Wednesday, June 4

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Pellamwood Court, fraud - A complainant stated that someone withdrew a sum of money from his bank account from a location in the Rochester area.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he found two grenades in the parking lot of a business. Deputies located the items and determined them to be toy smoke grenades.

•Alvin Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male subject on a bicycle at a closed business during the late evening hours. The subject was advised and left without incident.

Thursday, June 5

•Ward Park Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

Friday, June 6

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a four-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Sandy Beach Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a dog was locked inside of a vehicle and appeared to be in distress. Deputies located the driver of the vehicle and advised her. The dog was observed by patrol and appeared to be in good health.

•West River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that a known individual stole a large sum of money from her during a transaction of real estate.

•Flanigen Lane, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated a female subject came to his residence and attempted to sell him magazines. The female then left in a vehicle with out-of-state license plates. Deputies located the vehicle and female nearby and determined she had a valid peddler's permit issued by the Town of Grand Island to conduct her business.

•Staley Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Woodlee Lane, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Whitehaven Road, shots fired - A complainant stated she heard several shots fired in the area behind her residence. Deputies located the source of the gunfire and advised the subject who agreed to stop shooting for the day.

•East River Road, animal complaint - A complaint stated that a raccoon was in her yard and appeared to be sick or injured.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees of a restaurant stated that a female subject left the restaurant without paying for the bill. Deputies located the subject, who returned to the business and paid the bill.
