Niagara County Republican Chairman Scott Kiedrowski said this week it is time for the County Legislature to review its ethics and disclosure policies with the goal of increasing public transparency and accountability.

"The current policy was drafted nearly two decades ago," Kiedrowski said. "The policy has served its purpose, but the expectations of what should be made available to the public are much different today than they were 20 years ago. "

Kiedrowski said, in the age of sunshine, the public needs to feel confident elected officials and those serving as appointees on public boards are acting in the public interest and do not have conflicts of interest.

He said he was reaching out the County Legislature's leadership to discuss a process for updating the ethics and disclosure policy, and believed changes could be made in fairly short order to take effect with future ethics and disclosure filings.
