Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for May 16, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to calls from May 3 to 5. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Saturday, May 3

•Love Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown person was knocking on his door during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject ran out into the street and the complainant almost struck him. Deputies located the intoxicated male subject and advised him.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - Deputies located a male subject stumbling down the roadway. The subject was advised and assisted home.

•East River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated a dog was wandering through the neighborhood and appeared to be lost. The dog control officer was notified.

•Schwegler Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths in the area were knocking down signs and causing trouble. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects by the description given.

•East River Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that a youth was shooting squirrels with a BB gun. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any youths by the description given.

•Baseline Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 28-year-old man from Tonawanda for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently revoked. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was traveling on the wrong side of the road and then pulled into a motel. Deputies located the driver and advised her.

•Love Road, youth activity - A complainant stated a vehicle was driving around in the Kaegebein Elementary School parking lot during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located several vehicles parked in a business parking lot during the late hours of the night. Deputies determined the vehicles belonged to employees of the business on-site rehearsing for upcoming shows.

•West Park Road, trespass - Deputies observed a subject going through the front yards of numerous residences and looking into mailboxes. When approached by patrol, the subject attempted to flee and was found in a nearby yard. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man from Grand Island for trespass (a violation), disorderly conduct (a violation) and obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Sunday, May 4

•Town Hall Terrace, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone damaged his vehicle.

•Marlin Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated his neighbor's dog was being aggressive and ran at him. The dog control officer was notified.

•Long Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that the driver of another vehicle cut him off and was swerving all over the roadway. The complainant followed the vehicle until it was parked at a business. Patrol located the driver and advised him.

•Royal Oak Circle, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone broke the window to her vehicle. Nothing was reported missing.

Monday, May 5

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was stopping in traffic and looking into garbage containers. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•First Street, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was repeatedly driving down the street and then the driver yelled at the complainant. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Dolphin Drive, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke with the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in the last hour, an unknown person or persons stole his daughter's jacket and cell phone. The complainant notified patrol on a later date that the items were recovered and confirmed they were not stolen.

•West River Parkway, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that two vehicles were parked next to each other on the grass shoulder of the roadway and thought it looked strange. The vehicles left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicles by the descriptions given.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.
