Shawn Conschafter, sales manager at Anchor Marine on Grand Island, wants to remind Western New Yorkers it's not too late to become involved with boating this year.

The 2014 season started locally on May 15, which, in comparison to last year's April 1 opening date, is a significant delay.

In celebration of the beginning of the season, Anchor Marine, located at 1501 Ferry Road on Grand Island, is holding an open house Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as Sunday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What makes Anchor Marine different from other area watercraft dealers?

"We do everything," Conschafter said. "We sell the boat, we service the boat, we have a parts and accessories store here. Water skis, too."

He further described Anchor Marine as a "one-stop shop" also featuring indoor and outdoor storage.

New boaters are commonly intimidated by the expensive price tag associated with boating. Conschafter claims that, at Anchor Marine, by making monthly payments, customers can purchase new boat packages at a similar rate to their cell phone bill, starting around $100.

This source of family entertainment is a "great way to spend a Saturday" Conschafter said. He wants previous non-boaters to see how much fun the activity can be.

For those already familiar with the boating lifestyle, Conschafter encouraged past customers to trade in their old boat, and experience some of the new inventory.

The new Scarab 195 Jet Boat and Harris 240 Solstice will debut in the water at the open house, contributing to the fun, educational atmosphere.
