The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Wheatfield Post 1451 have selected their candidates to represent Niagara-Wheatfield High School at the Empire Boys State and Girls State Program this summer.

Andrew Teixeira, Justin Adams and Andrew Canada were selected as delegates to attend Boys State from June 27 to July 3 at Morrisville State College in Morrisville, New York.

Santana Sawma was selected as the delegate to attend Girls State, with Sandra Tran being selected as the alternate. Girls State will take place from June 30 to July 6 at Brockport State College in Brockport, New York.

Boys and Girls State is a weeklong civics and leadership program sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. Hundreds of students from across New York attend and spend their week creating their own mythical state. Throughout the week, the students learn how to run for offices, organize campaigns and pass bills. They also develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for how government works.
