Annual awards brunch recognizes local individuals and organizations

On Thursday, May 29, Community Missions Inc. will hold its 22nd annual awards brunch at the LaSalle Yacht Club to honor many of the agency's volunteers and supporters. The event allows the agency to demonstrate its appreciation for the individuals and organizations that help make Community Missions' work possible.

Each year, a number of volunteers who have generously donated their time throughout the year are honored. Award winners from six of the organization's departments are recognized, too. In addition, Executive Director Robyn Krueger presents a director's award, and the Sharon Kroetsch Memorial Award is bestowed upon a chosen board member.

This year's honorees include JoAnne Paxon of Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Mental Health Recovery Services Award; Panera Bread (Military Road), Crisis and Community Services Award; Kristen M. LaGamba of the United Way of Greater Niagara Inc., Finance Award; Robert Inwards, Public Relations Award; North Tonawanda Police Department, Mental Health Housing Services Award; Laura J. Kelemen LCSW-R of the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara, Youth Services Award; Grigg Lewis Foundation, Director's Award; and Barbara Northan, CMI board member, Susan Kroetsch Memorial Award.

Since its founding in 1925, Community Missions has provided a unique blend of referral, crisis, community support and residential services for youth and adults. In 2013, the missions' crisis services programs served more than 75,000 meals and provided nearly 11,000 nights of care to neglected or abused children and homeless adults. Additional agency programs serve adults and youth with psychiatric disabilities, parolees, at-risk youth and other underserved populations in both residential and recovery-oriented settings.
