New York Air National Guard Lt. Col. Deanna Miller, a Youngstown resident, took command of the 70-member 107th Airlift Wing's Logistics Readiness Squadron on Saturday, May 17. She replaces Lt. Col. Kenneth Anderson who retired in April.

Miller joined the Air Force in 1987 when she enlisted in the 914th Airlift Wing of the Air Force Reserve at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. In 1993, she joined the New York Air National Guard to become a KC-135 Stratotanker pilot. She was commissioned from the Academy of Military Science in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1993.

Miller flew tankers in the 107th Air Refueling Group until 2007. She also served as a tactics officer for the 136th Air Refueling Squadron and also served as 107th Airlift Wing plans officer.

From 2007 to 2014, she served as the 107th Airlift Wing executive officer.

Miller has flown missions in support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as security missions at home and overseas.

"I am honored to take part in this assumption of command ceremony as I have known Lt. Col. Miller a long time. I know she is the right person at the right time for this job," said Col. Don McGuire, Mission Support Group commander. "I have been impressed with Lt. Col. Miller's ability to learn and understand the diverse operations of the squadron, and her eagerness to lead it during challenging times that the conversion to the MQ-9 has and will bring."

The 107th Airlift Wing is beginning the process of switching from flying C-130 cargo planes to the MQ-9 "Reaper" remotely piloted aircraft.

Miller graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1984 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1989.

The 107th Logistics Readiness Squadron plans and executes movement of passengers and cargo of the 107th Airlift Wing. It handles supply and fuel management for the wing.

Miller and her husband, Lt. Col. Greg Miller, who is also a member of the 107th Airlift Wing, have three children.
