The number of fatal crashes doubled on Niagara County roadways from 2012 to 2013. One out of 10 drivers still refuses to buckle up.

Data also reflects that seatbelt usage is lower at night than during daylight hours and pickup truck drivers and their passengers buckle up less than others.

Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour reminds everyone that buckling up continues to be the most effective method of saving lives and minimizing injuries in a crash. Starting Monday, May 19, and running through Sunday, June 1, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office will join forces with other law enforcement agencies across the state in this year's "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

"As we head into our busy summer months, we at the Niagara County Sheriff's Office want all of our residents to have a fun and safe summer. Please take the time to buckle up ... seatbelts save lives!" Voutour said.
