Errick Road Elementary School will celebrate its 13th annual Student Art Show from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.

According to art teacher Tracy Bloom, "Paintings, prints, illustrations, collages, and sculptures made by all students at the school will be on display. Guests can enjoy an ice cream sundae compliments of the parent group, B.E.N. (Boosters for Errick's Needs)."

This year's event chairs are Cathi Sitzman, Renee Torcasio and Kelly Caito.

The same night, Errick Road also will host its second sculpture unveiling at 5:45 p.m. in the Sculpture Courtyard. Third-graders will unveil their masterpiece, "Monument to the Solar System," that connects art with science. The large sculpture will feature a model of the solar system on top of a four-sided steel base that is decorated with ceramic elements depicting moon phases, asteroid belts, stars, space shuttles, satellites, and even an astronaut or two.

Steel artist Mike Murawski created the steel elements for the structure. American Glass on Military Road in Niagara Falls created Saturn's ring.

N-W student Jake Blankenship will provide the drumroll for the unveiling.

"The collaborative sculpture and unveiling is a culmination of several months of work and emphasizes the importance of working together to accomplish more than one could ever accomplish alone," Bloom said.
