The most important message regarding Ellicottville's 2014 Summer Music Festival, which takes place July 4-6 is this: It's a family affair.

Summer Music Festival is an affordable, family-friendly event, with advance tickets for the evening headline acts (Buffalo Philharmonic Saturday night; the Gin Blossoms Sunday night) starting at $25 for adults. Entrance is free for kids 12 and under. There's also free parking, the event is wheelchair accessible and families are allowed to bring their own picnic baskets to the shows.

The festival includes an arts and craft show, a pet parade, strawberry festival and other daytime entertainment in a historic village. The festival attracts thousands each year from across Western New York, Ohio, Northern Pennsylvania and Southern Ontario.

This year's festival gets a big lift (literally) when it kicks off Friday, July 4, with the festival's first ever "Holiday Valley Top of the Mountain Party." It begins with an almost mile-long chairlift ride to the top, where there will be food and drink stations, live entertainment and a unique view of the valley below.

Saturday, July 5, marks the return of the BPO. The 80-musician-strong ensemble will perform everything from "Stars and Stripes Forever" to a variety of popular classics before wrapping up with the iconic "1812 Overture" by Tchaikovsky (complete with choreographed fireworks to end the evening).

Not to be outdone, the weekend festival wraps Sunday evening, July 6, with national recording artists The Gin Blossoms, known for such albums as "New Miserable Experience," which sold more than 4 million copies, and Grammy-nominated songs including "Hey Jealousy."

Aside from the fact families are allowed to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic baskets, VIP packages are also available and include meals, refreshments, tickets and preferred parking and seating.
