Donna R. Garfinkel, acting town clerk for the Town of Lewiston, has announced her candidacy for the position of Lewiston town clerk. She was appointed acting town clerk following the retirement of Carol Brandon in December, and will be running for the unexpired term.

Garfinkel has had a long-career working for the town. In 1990 she was hired as a part-time secretary to the environmental enforcement officer. A year later she was appointed part-time deputy town clerk. She continued in these positions until 1992, when she was appointed a full-time deputy town clerk and sub-registrar.

"Having held these positions for 23 years, I've learned and developed a great understanding of what residents want and need, and that's the driving force behind all that I do!" said Garfinkel. "Throughout my years with the town, I've had many opportunities to improve the services for our residents."

Garfinkel has kept abreast of the many changing technologies. She has attended numerous training sessions and seminars, and has kept current on the ever-changing town and state regulations. She has assisted in transferring paper records to computer base, worked with the Niagara County Board of Elections to ensure Lewiston's new voting machines were successfully implemented, and ensured data was properly entered. She also was the town representative for coordinating the 2010 Census count.

Garfinkel is a registered municipal clerk, a current member of the Niagara County Clerk's Association and the New York State Town Clerk's Association.

Garfinkel has lived in Lewiston for 32 years with her husband Neil. They have two children, Jessica (Chris) Budde, and Jason.
