The Niagara County Department of Health nursing division will offer a free diabetes prevention program at the Dale Association, 33 Ontario St., Lockport, beginning April 3. This is an evidence-based, 16-week program designed to help participants reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes.

Classes run from 10 to 11 a.m., and will run for 16 consecutive Thursdays. These sessions are followed by a group of six-eight monthly sessions designed to offer additional support and help in maintaining lifestyle changes. The class will help participants improve food choices, increase physical activity and learn coping skills to maintain weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

Those ages 18 and up who have been told by a physician they are pre-diabetic, or have questions about whether they might qualify for this workshop, should call 716-278-1900 weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for more information or to register for the class.
