Congressman Brian Higgins spoke on the House Floor about the national security and economic importance of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station to the Western New York region, in addition to expressing his support for the proposal to construct a new Customs and Border Protection border patrol station on the base.

The text of Higgins' remarks is below:

"Mr. Speaker,

"The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is one of Western New York's most critical resources. It is not only an asset to our region's economy, but also to our nation's security.

"The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station employs over 3,500 Western New Yorkers and has an economic impact of more than $200 million annually.

"I am proud to be a part of a large group of community stakeholders who are deeply invested in the successful future of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Last year, Customs and Border Protection selected the base as their top choice for the construction of a new border patrol station.

"Mr. Speaker, I am committed to help see this proposal through, in addition to others that will ensure that Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station remains a fixture in our community for many years to come."
