Valentines for Veterans program created thousands of cards

Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick announces his fourth annual Valentines for Veterans program was once again a great success, creating thousands of cards for local veterans and active servicemen and women.

"The Valentines for Veterans program grows each year, making it possible to thank more veterans and soldiers for their service and remind them they are appreciated this holiday," said Hardwick. "I want to thank everyone involved as I believe this was the best year to date."

Hardwick thanked all the students and staff at St. Stephen School, and the Grand Island Central School District's Huth Road, Kaegebein and Charlotte Sidway elementary schools who participated in the 2014 Valentines for Veterans program.

Other schools that took part in the program included Mount St. Mary Academy, New Life Christian School, The Baptist School, Cardinal O'Hara High School, St. Christopher School and Charter School for Applied Technologies; Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD's Thomas A. Edison Elementary and Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary schools; and Tonawanda City School District's Fletcher Elementary, Mullen Elementary and Riverview Elementary schools.

The Veterans One-Stop Center in Buffalo received thousands of cards for clients, in addition to cards being sent to the 301st Regional Support Group through the U.S. Army Reserve and local American Legion posts.

Hardwick added, "The Valentines for Veterans program is an opportunity to thank our veterans and active members of the military for their commitment and sacrifice, and to remind them they are appreciated throughout the year."
