The newly revised sixth edition of the book "Tuscarora Heroes" has been published by the Historical Association of Lewiston, and is now available at the Lewiston Museum; DiCamillo Bakery and the Orange Cat Coffee Co. in Lewiston; and the Book Corner in Niagara Falls.

The book, first published in 2010 and authored by volunteer Lee Simonson, includes several changes, including a new cover photo of the monument by photographer Bill Carpenter and additional information about the British attack on Lewiston in December 1813. Updated information about the identity of the "Western Indian" attackers is also provided.

"We sold out of our supply the night the Tuscarora Heroes Monument was unveiled on Dec. 19," said Lewiston Museum Director Pam Hauth.

The Tuscarora Heroes project turned out to be the largest War of 1812 bicentennial monument in the U.S. Three larger-than-life bronze sculptures now stand at Portage Road and Center Street in Lewiston as the community's tribute to the Tuscarora Nation. Tuscarorans helped defend Lewiston against the brutal British attack - a rare example of Native Americans saving the lives of white settlers during a foreign invasion.

All book proceeds go to the Lewiston Museum. Groups or organizations interested in having Simonson speak on the topic are welcome to call 716-754-4214 for arrangements.
