Carol Miller presents 'World Rock Art from The Paleolithic to The Present' at Niagara County History Center

Rock art is more complex and more widespread than just the painted caves of Europe. Speaker Carol Miller will offer a series of presentations on open-air rock art, which is every bit as impressive and even more prolific. "World Rock Art from The Paleolithic to The Present" will be presented at the Niagara County History Center from 7-8:30 p.m. on four consecutive Tuesdays (March 18-25, April 1-8).

Rock art is found on all continents, except Antarctica, from the Arctic Circle to the tip of South America, and in all eras, from the Upper Paleolithic of 40,000 years ago right up to 1964. Miller will offer a brief outline of rock art through many countries and time periods, emphasizing both the similarities and the differences, and pointing out how the art reflected the daily life of the society that created it, and often foreshadowed the art of modern times.

Miller has given classes on Paleolithic art at Lockport's Market Street Art Center and the Kenan Center. A Lockport resident, she is a retired microbiologist and now devotes time to quilting, photography and teaching for fun. She and her husband, Mike, travel frequently, and some of her photographs of American petroglyphs will be featured in these classes.
