New York State Sen. Mark J. Grisanti, R-I-Buffalo, announced this afternoon that his petition in opposition to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's plan to give free college to state prison inmates has reached 5,000 signatures. The petition, titled "Say 'NO' To Free College For Prisoners," was created on Monday evening, and has accumulated this number of signatures in just three days.

"The more signatures we can get, the stronger our message becomes," Grisanti said. "Reaching 5,000 signatures shows how impassioned Western New Yorkers are against this issue, and how supportive they are of middle-class taxpayers struggling to pay the increasing costs of higher education."
